BlueSpace is a vision for the future where anyone on the planet can access tools over the Internet and explore earth science datasets alone or with others. In BlueSpace, Informal Science Education objectives are suggested and researched by the general public who access near real-time data sets which represent the world around them. Data is presented in applications that users can modify thematically, spacially, and temporally while adjusting the interface to align with their expertise level.
CEV creates BlueSpace by providing six core services (identified in the services drop-down menu above) and working with partners on campus and around the world to integrate those services with all other necessary components. BlueSpace emphasizes learning through collaboration by providing tutor-student, peer-to-peer, and shared classroom support by connecting (via the Web) geographically distant participants. In attempting to maximize interest and involvement with earth science, particularly the world's rivers, ocean's, and nearshore habitats, BlueSpace selects technologies that provide maximum sensory immersion for the best possible experience. In this regard, BlueSpace subscribes to the ideals of the GreenSpace project that came before it.
