Marine Exploration Games

The CEV's Marine Exploration Games project attempts to raise student awareness of higher education opportunities in Information Technology and Ocean Science through participation in designing and playing video games with an earth science theme. The project aims to transfer IT skills required for current and new careers in the IT sector while developing each participant's ability to work in teams, to communicate effectively, and to learn new technical knowledge quickly and apply that knowledge effectively in unique and unfamiliar settings.

Throughout the game process, we determine the effectiveness of building and playing computer games with real-time data from natural systems as a tool for learning useful informational technologies and understanding complex environments. We also gauge the effect of building and playing computer games with real-time data from natural systems on IT and Ocean science career choices. The games themselves promote themes in ocean exploration and discovery.
